MI Playing 11 IPL 2020
Being the defending champions of IPL, Mumbai Indians probably have the strongest core in the tournament. This team has got all the areas covered with various backup options. MI is arguably the most dangerous team in IPL 2020. There is an addition to the power-packed batting of MI with Chris Lynn joining the squad for the first time, they will be high on confidence going forward.
Mumbai Indians IPL 2020 Playing 11 – Chris Lynn, Quinton de Kock (wicket keeper), Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma (captain), Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga, Dhawal Kulkarni.
Playing 11 Review:
CHRIS LYNN is one of the most destructive openers in the T20 format. He has done wonders for KKR in the past. He is popularly known as ”LYNN SANITY” especially when he goes all guns blazing. He has tremendous records in the Big Bash while opening the batting. He has got great potential to hit the ball hard with brute force. Although his T20 strike rate went down a little after the shoulder surgery, he is still a threat for the opposition at the top of the order. It’d be fascinating to watch him in the Blue for the first time.
QUINTON DE KOCK is one of the best overseas wicket-keeper batsmen in the IPL. Now, do not think about last year’s IPL final where he missed the ball and gave away 4 crucial byes which brought the equation down to 9 off 6 balls. Even the great fails at times. Of course, there was high pressure. After all, it was the IPL FINAL. Else, he has some great records behind the stumps with some brilliant stumpings and outstanding catches. He has classical shots in his books which can find the gaps in the field and he can also go big at times. He piled up more than 500 runs in the last season and ended up as the leading run-scorer of the team. With Lynn being his partner at the top, this partnership will be something to look out for in IPL 2020.
Middle Order Batsmen:
SURYAKUMAR YADAV is a player who has the ability to anchor the innings well. He was earlier associated with KKR and was given the role of lower-middle order batsman. He joined the MI squad in 2018. He was asked to open the innings and boy, didn’t he delivered?. He scored more than 500 runs in that season with four fifties. The previous year wasn’t bad either as he scored more than 400 runs batting at No 3. He has the ability to switch gears at times and to stay patient according to the situation.
ROHIT SHARMA is the captain of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. Things changed for Mumbai in 2013 after the arrival of Rohit as Captain. Winning 4 titles out of the 7 seasons as Captain shows his leadership skills. Though his records while batting at No.4 aren’t great, his presence gives the team the stability they require during the middle overs. He has got all the shots in the book with the Pull Shot being the best of him. He can set the perfect stage for the likes of Pollard and Pandya to unleash in the back end overs.
KIERON POLLARD will be playing his 10th IPL season in MI Colours. He has a long association with this franchise. He is one of the best all-rounders in world cricket. What a Champion Player he has been for MI?. He has played some match-winning knocks over the year for MI. When he was given the opportunity to lead the team in 2019 with Rohit getting injured, he showed how a captain should lead from the front. He put on a masterclass with the score of 83 off just 31 balls against KXIP and single-handedly took MI home. He is a Special Player. He is so powerful that even his mishits can go beyond the boundary line.
KRUNAL PANDYA is a good lower middle-order batsman. He is a left-arm spin option in the team. He has played some quick-fire innings for MI in the past. Being a lower middle-order batsman, he doesn’t get much overs to play with. He has played some vital innings for MI and has been decent with the ball too and can give the team 4 overs. He is a great fielder to have on the team.
HARDIK PANDYA is surely one of the best all-rounders in the world. He is the second-best finisher of India after MSD. The role is simple. He mostly comes to the crease during the 16th or 17th over and more often than not finishes the job in style. He has the best batting strike rate in the team during the death overs. He is a strong lad and can hit the ball very long. While chasing a mammoth total of 232 against KKR in 2019, Hardik scored 91 off just 34 balls with a strike rate of 267 along with 9 sixes and 6 fours. That was some hitting. Unbelievable. He can give 4 overs of bowling to the team as well. He is the best when it comes to the fielding with some outstanding catches to his name.
RAHUL CHAHAR is a young leg spinner in the team. He has been brilliant for MI in the last season. He has got varieties in his spin bowling and could play a big role in the pitches of UAE. Although he is inexperienced, he has got some skills which can trouble the batsmen.
JASPRIT BUMRAH is the best in the world. He has the best economy in the death overs. He is a World-Class Player. The yorkers, the slower ones, the in-dipper, the bumpers, and the hard length. He has certainly got everything. If someone asks me to pick a bowler to defend 7 or 8 in the last over, I’d pick Jasprit with closed eyes. I mean, he is just extraordinary at the death. He hardly gives any room to the batsmen to free his arms. His weird action makes him even more dangerous with the ball. He is some talent. The future of MI and Team India is secure with Bumrah to serve as the lead pacer in the coming years.
LASITH MALINGA is the bowler of the IPL. Of course, he is. The stats agree too. He has played 127 matches for MI and took 179 wickets (most by any bowler for the franchise). Who can forget the last ball of the 2019 IPL final? 2 needed off 1 with all eyes on Malinga. Everyone was expecting a yorker. But, he bowled a slower delivery which deceived the batsman and hit him on the leg. It was plumb in front. Wow, how calm he was in that situation. He successfully defended 9 off the last over and helped MI in winning their 4th IPL Title. The deadly duo of Bumrah and Malinga will lead the bowling attack of Mumbai Indians.
DHAWAL KULKARNI will be the last man in this 11. He has a good seam variation and can turn out to be quite handy with the new ball. He has a decent record while bowling the opening spell. He castled Virat Kohli for a duck in the first qualifier of 2016 which certainly made Gujarat Lions the favorites to win the match until the arrival of AB De Villiers who single-handedly took RCB to the finals of 2016.
Mumbai Indians All time Best Playing 11 in IPL History
Mumbai Indians is a team with some great names who played for this franchise in the past including the likes of the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sanath Jayasuriya, and others. Let’s look at the All time IPL 11 of MI.
Mumbai Indians All time Best Playing 11: Sachin Tendulkar, Quinton de Kock (wicket keeper), Ambati Rayudu, Rohit Sharma (captain), Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga.
SACHIN TENDULKAR is an obvious choice for the opening slot. He is the Master of Batting. What a Player he had been for India. He is an inspiration and idol to millions across the world. He was the icon player in the inaugural season of IPL. He played for the first six seasons of IPL and scored more than 2300 runs at an average of 34 and a strike rate of around 120. The master was at his best in the year 2010 when he ended up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 618 runs to his name at an impressive average of 47. He is too good to be missed out from this list. He has more runs than any other player in the world across all formats, the first batsman to score a double century in ODIs, 100 international centuries are some of the records of Sachin. I mean, he is just fabulous, a TRUE LEGEND indeed.
QUINTON de KOCK makes the cut for the All time IPL 11 of MI. He scored more than 500 runs (most runs by a player of MI) in the previous edition of IPL and helped his team in winning the 4th IPL Title. He had an impressive 2019 with the bat and with the gloves as well. Lendl Simmons was another strong contender for this spot whose batting prowess helped MI to win the IPL in 2015. But, since Qdk plays the dual role of batting and as well as wicket keeping, he edges over Lendl and sealed his spot in the 11.
AMBATI RAYUDU is at No.3 on the list. He scored more than 2400 runs( third highest run-scorer for MI) batting at different positions. He had a long association with MI before joining the MI franchise. He has a healthy strike rate of 126 in the blue jersey. He played for MI for 8 seasons (2010-2017). He is a calm player who has the ability to anchor the innings and play the big shots too if the situation demands. He has played some crucial knocks for MI over the years and has been a vital player in their squad.
ROHIT SHARMA belongs to MI or I’d rather say MI belongs to him. What a turnaround it had been for the team since he stepped up as the Captain. He was given the leadership midway during the 2013 season and the rest is history. He won the first title for MI while captaining the team for the first time and 3 more titles followed in 6 years. Hitman is the highest run-scorer in the team with more than 4800 runs and the third-highest run-scorer in the history of the IPL (only behind Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli). No doubt, he is a MUST addition in the All time XI of MI.
KIERON POLLARD association with MI goes beyond a decade. He is a match-winner on his day. He played 148 matches for MI and scored more than 2700 runs at a brilliant strike rate of 146 and took 56 wickets. He is an outstanding fielder and a hard hitter of the Cricket Ball. He is a guy who doesn’t deliver all the time but when he does, he makes people remember it for a long time.
KRUNAL PANDYA is the No. 6 on the list. He has the knack of picking wickets at crucial times. He took 40 wickets for MI in the 55 matches he played. He has an impressive strike rate of 146 batting down the order which is quite brilliant. He can adapt to the different conditions and plays according to the situation of the match. His crucial 47 in the final of 2017 helped MI to win the game by just 1 run. He is a good left-arm spin option and also gives 100% on the field.
HARDIK PANDYA is one of the easiest choices to get featured in this 11. He had been the best all-rounder for MI along with Pollard. He has more than 250 runs to his name in the year 2017, 2018, and 2019. He is also amongst the wickets with 14+ wickets in the last two seasons for MI. He was brilliant last year in all the three departments. He scored more than 400 runs batting lower down the order, got more than 14 wickets, and also took some breathtaking catches which changed the game in MI’s favour. He is surely the best all-rounder of India as of now.
HARBHAJAN SINGH is one of the legends of MI. Having played for MI for more than 10 years, he joined the elite club of MI in the year 2018. He has taken 127 wickets playing for MI out of 150 wickets in his IPL career (third-highest wicket-taker in the history of IPL). He was the leading spinner of the team and helped the team to win 3 IPL trophies in the years 2013, 2015, and 2017. He has bowled 1249 dot balls which is the most by any player in the history of the IPL. His inputs to MI is invaluable.
Mitchell McClenaghan makes the cut in the All time Best XI of MI. Mitchell Johnson was another contender for this spot. However, McClenaghan has been the wicket-taker for MI since he joined the squad in the year 2015 and hence, made the All time 11 list. He took 18, 17, 19 and 14 wickets in the year 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 respectively. He was a lethal weapon in Rohit’s armory and was called on every time when the team needs a breakthrough. He delivered more often than not.
LASITH MALINGA is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the IPL. He is a part of this franchise since the very beginning. He took more than 15 wickets in the 9 seasons for MI. His consistency is just on another level. He was at his peak in the year 2011 where he took 28 wickets with an economy rate of 5.95. Economy below 6 in a T20 is just remarkable. He is one of the greats in the world and would even make the All time IPL 11 without any debates. If Raina is the Batsman of IPL, Lasith is surely the Bowler.
JASPRIT BUMRAH is currently the best bowler in the world. He is surely the definition of a complete bowler. He has got 82 wickets for MI since he joined the squad in 2013. His unorthodox action makes him even more special. He has all the varieties as a bowler. He is the best skillful death bowler in the world and he is just 26 years of age. You can imagine how deadly and dangerous he will become with more experience. His economy rates in the last 4 seasons of IPL is just unreal considering the fact that he bowls the most crucial overs of the innings with assured 2 overs at the death. He is Truly Special and we have quite a lot to see from him in the years to come.
Some Notable players who missed out in the All time 11 of MI:
- Lendl Simmons
- Mitchell Johnson
- Surya Kumar Yadav
- Corey Anderson
