If not the Trophy, this team wins the hearts of millions with never give up attitude which will eventually lead them to the title sooner or later. They’ll be eying this year for their first trophy considering the bowling depth in their squad which was a weak link for this team over the years.

Playing 11 Review:

Opening Batsmen:

AARON FINCH will most likely open the batting for RCB this year. Though his numbers in the IPL doesn’t speak much, he is an experienced campaigner at the top order. He is not only a powerful player at the Top for Australia but, also captains the Aussie side in the shorter format. He played for 8 different franchises in the IPL and becomes the first player to do so. He started his IPL journey in the year 2010 with Rajasthan Royals and since then he just kept changing the colors of his jersey. He holds the record of the highest individual score in a T20 International with a score of 156 off just 63 balls including 11 fours and 14 sixes. Wow, That was some serious hitting. He took the English bowlers to the cleaners and was unstoppable in that match. With RCB, he has the freedom to get going from the very first ball, and even if he fails, the two biggest stars VIRAT and AB will take over the things.

PARTHIV PATEL will be the batting partner of Aaron Finch in IPL 2020. He was brilliant with the bat in the last season. He was damn good with the gloves too. The special moment with the gloves was in IPL 2019 when the MSD onslaught almost took CSK home as he destroyed Umesh Yadav for 24 runs off just 5 balls. Then it was 2 needed off 1 and MS missed the ball and Parthiv hits the bull’s eye and the batsman didn’t make the crease. It was surely a Memorable game. Heartbreaking for CSK fans but nevertheless, that was an exciting game of cricket. Parthiv’s role is simple in the team. He’ll just go out and fire in the power play with finding gaps at will and then says over to you ”superstars”(Virat & AB). It’d be 3rd consecutive season for Parthiv with RCB. He is an experienced player and can set the perfect platform for Virat and AB with some quick-fire runs.

Middle Order Batsmen:

VIRAT KOHLI is the captain of RCB in IPL 2020. If CSK belongs to Mahi, MI belongs to Rohit then surely RCB belongs to Virat Kohli. He is the only player who is associated with the franchise since the very beginning. He played under Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, and Daniel Vettori during the first five seasons. He was appointed to lead the side in the year 2013. He is yet to get an IPL Trophy for RCB. Virat Kohli has consistent runs in all IPL seasons and he has also the highest runs in IPL history with more than 5400 runs to his name. This man is just unimaginable. He is the best, the master, the chaser, the superstar, and so on. I’m running out of superlatives. He is an inspiration to the millions. The hunger to score runs is simply incredible. I bet, no other player in the history of cricket had or has such hunger to score runs. He is the Run-Machine. Having not played cricket for quite some time due to COVID 19 pandemic, he will be itching to go out on the field and score runs. He is surely one of the strongest contenders for the Orange Cap this year.

AB DE VILLIERS is the man of Bengaluru. He has a huge fan following in India especially in the city of Bangalore during the IPL. This will be the 10th season of ABD as RCBian. Popularly known as Mr.360, he has delivered for RCB plenty of times with his extraordinary batting. Virat and AB are the pillars of this team. The knock against GL in qualifier 1 in the year 2016 was one of his finest knocks. 159 was the target for RCB to get into the finals. Dhawal Kulkarni was all over RCB as he took 4 wickets inside the powerplay including that Kohli, Gayle, and Rahul. There was stunned silence in the crowd when he castled Virat who was unstoppable in that season. Rahul, Watson, and Sachin Baby followed as RCB were reduced to 29 with the loss of 5 wickets. Then the arrival of ABD and the rest is history. He scored unbeaten 79 runs off 47 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes (one of them landing in the Cubbon Park) to take RCB to the finals of 2016. It was just one name echoing in the Chinnaswamy during that match. AB AB AB !!!!  He’ll make the RCB 11 any day of the week.

MOEEN ALI would be the No.5 for RCB this year. He is a good middle-order batsman who can hit the ball long and also gives 4 overs of spin. His 4 overs would be crucial considering the UAE gound pitches favor the spinners more than the pacers. He made Kuldeep Yadav cry in the last season of the IPL by bludgeoning him for 27 runs in an over. He is probably one of the best spin bowling all-rounders in the IPL.

SHIVAM DUBE will most likely take the No.6 spot in the team. Having played for India in T20s, he has some experience under his belt. He is a lower middle-order batsman who can hit the ball long with his long leavers. He’ll take up the finishing role for RCB this year along with Moeen Ali. He can also bowl a few overs for the team if required. He is a natural striker of the ball.

WASHINGTON SUNDAR is yet another local lad in the side who possess the all-round ability of both batting and bowling. Like Moeen, he gives 4 overs to the team and plays his shots during the back end of the innings. Sundar is a finger spinner and mostly bowls a couple of overs during the powerplay. He has played as an opener in his domestic team and has some quality shots in his book. With him at No.7, RCB has some depth in their batting.

DALE STEYN will lead the pace attack of RCB in IPL 2020. He has played for RCB during the initial seasons of IPL and then went to SRH and came back to RCB again in the year 2019. He just played 2 matches for the team in 2019 before getting ruled out of the tournament due to injury. He played against CSK last year and my word, what an opening spell was that. A genuine outswing delivery that got the edge of Watson’s bat and was caught at slip. The next ball to Raina was just unplayable. The inswinging yorker to Mr. IPL which went past his defense and cleaned him up. ”How do you play that” erred Kevin Pietersen on air. That was surely the best ball of IPL 2019.

UMESH YADAV is one of the Indian seamers in the 11. Though his numbers aren’t great, his experience gives him the place in the 11. He has pace and bounce and can also bowl slower deliveries at times. He is also one of the quickest fielders on the team.

NAVDEEP SAINI will accompany Umesh and Steyn in the bowling department. He has got some serious pace ranging from 145 to 150 kph. He can also extract bounce from the pitch which makes him even more dreadful with the ball. He is Virat’s favorite boy with the ball and surely he is in the 11 of Virat’s team. He is good with the yorkers too.

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL is the highest wicket-taker for RCB. Whenever Virat is in search of wickets, he calls Yuzi. He is a pure wicket-taking option in the team. RCB has quite a lot of spinning options in the 11 with Chahal spearheading the spin department. He bowls in the powerplay and in the middle overs. He is a bowler who is not afraid of getting hit for runs. He will happily take a 4 or 6 but, what he does best is that he removes the batsman after conceding few runs. That’s what differentiates him from that of other leggies who often turn defensive after conceding a boundary. He has a crucial role to play in the pitches of UAE.

RCB All time Best Playing 11 in IPL History

Starting from Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble, RCB had some ”Greats of Cricket” who played for them in the past. Let’s look at the All-time Best 11 of RCB in the history of IPL.

RCB All Time Best Playing 11:  Chris Gayle, Parthiv Patel (wicket keeper), Virat Kohli (captain), AB De Villiers, Jacques Kallis, Mandeep Singh, Mitchell Starc, Vinay Kumar, Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, Yuzvendra Chahal.

CHRISTOPHER HENRY GAYLE is a must pick in this list. He came to RCB as a replacement of Dirk Nannes in the year 2011 and the rest is history. He was in the Beast mode from the word go. He scored more than 2000 runs in his first 3 seasons with at least a century in each season. He also won the Orange Cap in the year 2011 and 2012. He is the ”UNIVERSE BOSS”. He can destroy any opposition on his day with such ease. He scored 3163 runs for RCB at an average of 43.32 and a phenomenal strike rate of 152 during his 7-year journey with the franchise. He scored more than 700 runs in the year 2012 and 2013. His best innings came in the year 2013 when he demolished the bowling attack of Pune Warriors India and scored an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls at an impressive strike rate of 265 which included 14 fours and 17 sixes. My word, that was some hell of an innings. His score 175 is the highest score by an individual in T20 cricket.

PARTHIV PATEL will accompany the big man at the top. He played 3 seasons for RCB in the year 2015, 2018 & 2019 respectively. He scored 741 runs for Bangalore during his tenure. He is the man with the gloves in the All-Time XI. He had a great last season for RCB scoring more than 350 runs. He is the guy who can make use of power-play overs and give the team a cracking start.

VIRAT KOHLI is a sure-shot pick in any RCB All-Time XI. He is a man with sheer passion and determination towards his game. He holds the record of the highest individual run-scorer in the history of the IPL with more than 5400 runs. He is currently ”THE BEST” in the business. You just cannot even think of an RCB All-Time XI without this man. He won the Orange Cap in the year 2016. He was sensational with the bat in that season. He was hitting centuries for fun. 4 centuries in a single season ( most by any individual in the IPL) and scored 973 runs in a single edition ( most runs by any individual in one season of IPL). I mean, you must be kidding me. Nearly 1000 runs in one season? Just Wow. He scored a century against KXIP with 12 stitches in his hand and that too in a shortened game of 15 overs. You just cannot do that Virat. He was a player from another planet during the year 2016. He is a must pick in any RCB XI.

AB DE VILLIERS is surely at No.4 for RCB. It is extremely difficult to write a script for RCB without Gayle, Virat, and AB. Ever since he joined RCB, the fans of Bengaluru adopted him. He receives an immense amount of love whenever he comes to the Chinnaswamy. He loves his game, loves to entertain the crowd, loves to hit innovative strokes, and also loves to demolish the opposition’s bowling. He aggregated 3724 runs for RCB at an average of around 42 and an extraordinary strike rate of 159. He is one of the most destructive middle-order batsmen in world cricket. He has the ability to score runs all over the park which made him Mr. 360. Getting down on one knee with exposing all the 3 stumps and a flick to fine leg for six is one of his favorite shots. He can win games single-handedly any day of the week. He is one of the best acrobatic fielders of the team. He jumped like a superman and took a blinder to dismiss Alex Hales in the year 2018. He jumped, caught one-handed, and also managed to keep himself inches away from the boundary rope (All in one motion). He is a Superstar.

JACQUES KALLIS is in the All-Time XI for RCB as an overseas all-rounder. He was an integral part of the team in the first 3 seasons (2008 – 2010). He amassed 1271 runs and took 30 wickets for Royal Challengers during his tenure. He single-handedly took RCB to victory quite a few times. He is a brilliant batsman who has more than 10,000 ODI runs to his name and can also give 4 overs to the team.

MANDEEP SINGH makes the cut in the list. He has scored more than 500 runs for RCB batting lower down the order. He has a brilliant strike rate batting at the back end of an innings. He can make useful runs at the death with his skillful shots. He is a grown finisher who will quietly score 20 or 30 of just 10 to 15 balls.

MITCHELL STARC is a handy left-hander who can smack the ball out of the park coming in at No.7. He is a frontline bowler who will spearhead the pace attack of RCB in the All-Time XI. He has taken 34 wickets at an economy rate of 7.14 during the two seasons he played for RCB. He has pace, swing, bounce and bowls unplayable yorkers at the death too. He is an excellent bowler with great skills. The left-arm bowler is one of the dangerous bowlers in world cricket.

VINAY KUMAR is the second-highest wicket-taker for RCB. He is a skillful bowler who possesses different varieties in his bowling. He has scalped 80 wickets in RCB colors at an economy rate of 8.31 during the six seasons he played (2008 – 2013). He ended up as the leading wicket-taker for the team in the year 2012 with 19 wickets to his name.

ZAHEER KHAN is another left-arm bowler in the All-Time XI. He is one of the greatest bowlers of Indian Cricket. He played four seasons for this franchise and took 49 wickets at an economy of 7.85. S Aravind wasn’t far from making the XI, but Zaheer’s International experience cemented his place in the All-Time XI.

ANIL KUMBLE is one of the spinners in the All-Time XI of RCB. He played for the first 3 seasons for the franchise before retiring from IPL. He also captained the side in the years 2009 & 2010. He has 45 scalps to his name and an impressive economy of 6.57. He is one of the greatest spinners Indian Cricket has ever produced. His best figures in the IPL is 5/5 which came against RR in the year 2009.

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL is the leading wicket-taker for RCB with 100 scalps. He is currently the best leg spinner of India. He is a wicket-taking option for Kohli. He has the ability to bowl in the power play and he can even take up his hand to bowl the 17th over too. He is a great asset to the team who delivers consistently. He is an obvious choice in the All-Time RCB XI.
